Barclays Premier League: Week in Review

Hello Football Fans,

Another weekend has ended bringing with it another pulsating round of matches which left the neutrals thrilled and the punters cursing. Upsets, a freak goal, a derby humiliation and Liverpool finally breaking out of the relegation zone are just a few of the highlights of round 10 and with 28 more rounds to go, this season's drama is far from over.

Here are a few performances and incidents which help make the game of Football simply beautiful..

Toon Trashing:
There is no better feeling in the world than humiliating your fiercest rivals in front of your home fans in a packed stadium. And that was exactly what Newcastle did. Having just been promoted from the Championship, the Magpies are playing as though they have never left it, smashing five past a woeful Sunderland team who were primed for a Europa League place after the appointment of Steve Bruce.

It was a real pity Hatem Ben Arfa's missed the match after his season was cut short following that horrendous challenge by Man City's Nigel De Jong. But with a defender like Titus Bramble (Defender Extraordinare!) on the opposing team, he was not going to be missed.

McCarthy Magic:
Special mention this week has to go to Mick McCarthy and his boys from Wolverhampton. At the beginning of the week not a single soul had given them a chance to get even a sniff of the goal against the expensively assembled Man City team. Not only did they win but the made a team of top players look worse than the national team of Liechtenstein!

The difference between the two teams could be attributed to two players, Matt Jarvis for Wolves and Mario Balotelli for Man City. Comparing their performances, you would have thought Jarvis was the $24 million transfer from Inter Milan as he left the Man City defence in stitches. Balotelli on the other hand, was finally welcomed to the physicality of English Football and he had better get used to the bone-crunching tackles if he is to justify his hefty price tag.

Naughty, Naughty Nani!!
Rule #1 of Football: Always play to the whistle. Especially against Manchester United. The ruthless Reds once again showed why it is never wise to make any sort of mistake while playing against them as Nani took full advantage of the confusion among the Spurs ranks to score one of the most bizarre goals any of you would have ever seen. Spurs and Harry Redknapp may complain all they want but they have no one else but themselves to blame for assuming they had been awarded a free-kick.

But looking Nani's goal celebration, you wouldn't be blamed if you had thought he dribbled past the entire Spurs team twice and smashed the ball into the back of the next from his own penalty area. Take a look at the video link below and be your own judge.

Final Thoughts:
Over the last round of matches, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool all had their lucky starts to thank this week for getting wins which they hardly deserve. With all three winning by one-goal margins, one fact was highlighted. The BPL is becoming increasingly competitive and the dominance of the Big 4 (or Big 3 for now) will be seriously threatened as Man City and Spurs fine tune their squads and fine some much needed consistency.

That being said, it is still early days yet and many questions have yet to be answered. Can the promoted clubs Blackpool and West Brom maintain their sensational starts? Can Avram Grant and Roy Hodgson hold on to their jobs? Will Wayne Rooney rediscover his scoring form?

All these questions will be answered soon enough, and with a few months left before the reopening of the transfer window, the title race could still be turned on its head and provide football fans with even more drama from the best form of unscripted entertainment known to man.

Hope you have enjoyed what you have read! More will come in due time! In the meantime, feel free to leave your comments because The Kelong King always respects the opinions of experts.
